Design and Technology

Design and Technology here at Morpeth All Saints…

At Morpeth All Saints our design and technology curriculum encourages children to use their imagination and creativity to design and make products that can solve real life problems by considering the needs of those who will use them. We aim to link learning between subjects, such as maths, science, computing and art and utilise skills from across these areas. The children are encouraged to become inventors, innovators and risk-takers as they build up their confidence through using a variety of tools and materials that are fit for purpose. Through thoughtfully sequenced curriculum, pupils build secure knowledge and skills in designing, making and evaluating purposeful products. We aim for children to become critical thinkers who can communicate their ideas clearly and evaluate the effectiveness of designs using appropriate technical vocabulary.

Intent:

Our Design and Technology curriculum inspires creativity, problem-solving and innovation. In line with the expectations of the DfE National Curriculum, we provide a high-quality education that equips pupils with the knowledge, skills and confidence to design and create purposeful products.

Children are encouraged to use their imagination to develop solutions to real-life problems, carefully considering the needs of the intended user. Through each stage of the design process, pupils learn to think critically, make informed decisions and respond creatively to challenges.

Our curriculum makes strong links with mathematics, science, computing and art, allowing children to apply their learning in meaningful, practical contexts. Pupils design and create high-quality prototypes for a range of users, selecting suitable tools and materials with increasing independence. They are taught to test, evaluate and refine their work, while also exploring the impact of design and technology in the wider world, past and present.

We aim to develop resilient, reflective learners who can communicate their ideas confidently using appropriate technical vocabulary. By fostering innovation, responsibility and thoughtful risk-taking, we prepare children for the next stage of their education and for life beyond the classroom, nurturing creative thinkers ready to become the designers, engineers and innovators of the future.
